Nova Post has launched its first gas cogeneration unit
Nova Post has entered a new phase of its energy independence program — the first gas-piston cogeneration unit, with an electric capacity of 1 MW, has been launched at the company's hub in western Ukraine.
This is the first of seven planned CHP (combined heat and power) units, with the others currently being installed and set to go live this year, including in Kyiv. All seven units will operate on the principle of combined heat and power, producing both electricity and heat from natural gas.
In addition to the gas cogeneration units, Nova Post has already launched two solar power plants and is preparing to install energy storage systems at three more facilities. The combination of diverse power sources (solar energy, gas cogeneration, energy storage systems, and diesel generators) will help the company ensure operational stability.
«he thermal energy generated by the gas cogeneration unit, along with electricity, will significantly reduce heating costs by next winter. This project is our response to the challenges posed by the instability of Ukraine's energy system due to the war. We aim to ensure uninterrupted terminal operations under any conditions,»
— said Andrii Lytvynenko, CEO of Nova Energy.
The most challenging part of the project was connecting to gas networks, as none of the hubs had been gasified before.
Previously, Nova Post invested a total of UAH 300 million in energy autonomy and plans to invest an additional UAH 150 million this year. More than half of this UAH 450 million investment is directed toward gas generation.
