Customs clearance of the shipment in Finland
- Declared value or invoice value of the shipment*: up to €45 inclusive
International shipments with a declared value or invoice value of up to €45 are not subject to additional customs duties.
Unless the customs authorities determine that the market value of the parcel is more than €45. In this case, the recipient will be contacted regarding further customs clearance actions.
- Declared value or invoice value of the shipment*: over €45 but not exceeding €150 inclusiven
International shipments with a declared value or invoice value of up to €150 are subject to 25.5% VAT.
Calculation example:
The goods cost €100
VAT = €100 × 25,5% = €25,5
The recipient has to pay €25,5
- Declared value or invoice value of the shipment*: over €150
- Import duty:
- VAT: 25,5% of the shipment cost (Declared value or invoice value + import duty)
Calculation example
The product costs €300. Customs duties will be as follows:
- Import duty = €300 х 17% = €51
- VAT = (€300 + €51) х 25,5% = €89,51
Tax to be paid by the recipient: €51 + €89,51 = €140,51
This can happen if a customs officer detects a breach of the rules:
- The shipment's contents differ from the list specified in the declaration
- The declared value or invoice value differs from the actual value*.
- The parcel contains goods that are not accepted for transportation
- The recipient has already received international shipments with a total value over €150 during the last month
* The declared value is the value of the shipment's contents specified by the sender for parcels delivered within the country or the EU.
The invoice value is the declared value of the shipment's contents, which must align with the information on the invoice and reflect the actual value of the goods. It is used to calculate customs duties, taxes, and other fees that may apply when importing a shipment into the destination country.
